Starting the Journey with - Paypal in Malaysia

Before you go further to e-commerce, I would like to talk a bit about Paypal. I know those who are already in the journey of making money online would say "Ceh who doesn't know Paypal?". But this blog is basically for beginners so I would try to make them feel a bit more comfort before getting into the more serious issue. I also think that it is pointless to teach you to run before you can walk properly, right? ;)

Alright I believe wiki would give a better definition of Paypal than me, so here we go:

PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. PayPal serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such as checks and money orders.

PayPal performs payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other commercial users, for which it charges a fee. It sometimes also charges a transaction fee for receiving money (a percentage of the amount sent plus an additional fixed amount). The fees charged depend on the currency used, the payment option used, the country of the sender, the country of the recipient, the amount sent and the recipient's account type.

The conclusion pretty much tells you that you need Paypal anyway. Further issue is like how to withdraw your money and how to add fund into Paypal account. But don't worry about this because there will be thousand of experts and gurus willing to help you on this. You can always find the answer in forum, such as lowyat.net or cari.com.my. But before getting into these issues, let's get back to the application of Paypal.

In the Paypal website, you could see 3 types of accounts during registration, which are Personal, Business and Premier. I personally use Premier. After registration, you need to verify your account with debit card. I would advise you to use Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card or Tunemoney. I am not too sure about Tunemoney (I just applied it last week, would write a review when I use it hehe). So far I found that most Malaysians use Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card and hardly hear any complaint about it. To apply for this debit card, just walk in to Public Bank branch and request for the application form. It takes several week for the application to approve (This application is super easy as it doesn't need shit like salary slip bla bla bla, anyone can apply it!).

When you get the card, follow the steps in your Paypal account to verify your account.
